Written in the memory of the best dog an owner could ask for, see you at the rainbow bridge our little Fox.

There once was a small dog, light brown from head to toe, with a curly tail, pointed ears, and a cold black nose. She loved to play, roll in the grass, and bathe in the sun. Foxy seemed to have everything a little dog could ask for, but there is one thing that Foxy wanted more than anything. Every night she would fall asleep alone. Just before she closed her eyes she would wish for a real home.

So one-day Foxy set out on an adventure in search of her perfect place to live. She trotted off down the street curly tail bouncing back and forth

She sniffed her way through town after town. Hoping each new place would bring the home she dreamed of, a place that was warm and smelled good. Where she could run and play and be a happy free clean dog.

There were so many different places she found, all of them wrong, some were too stinky, others too small, some were so dark and scary she could never stay there, not at all. Some places were cold and damp, chilling her tiny tail and making her fur wet. No these would not do. Foxy kept searching determined to find her home.

One evening while Foxy was rummaging for a yummy bit of food under a bush, a man crept up on her. He hooked Foxy around the neck with a collar on a stick. He put the little pup into a small dark cage in the back of his truck.

She was so frightened of what would become of her? This tiny moving box that bounced around had other dogs just as scared as she was. What kind of dark prison was this? Foxy couldn’t tell if it was the truck trembling or if it was her.

Finally when they stopped the man took the dogs out. Foxy was at the pound. Dog prison wasn’t so bad, she thought. They bathed her, brushed her, and gave her plenty to eat. She turned her nose up to the food, Foxy was not hungry she was too scared. This place was loud and cold, how was she going to find a home now?

The pound was no home. The floors were hard and too slippery for her paws. Her cage smelled like so many other dogs once stuck in this same place she now found herself. Her mind went wild with so many new scents. People came and went, so did other dogs.

Foxy was ready to go. This cage would not be her home. So she got up on her tippy-paws and looked outside of her fenced-in cell. Down the hall, up and through the window. She saw a couple standing there staring in and pointing happily at her. Oh, the excitement this little dog felt. She wagged her tail ferociously and yelped a happy bark.

The couple walked up to her cage and talked to her through the chain-linked fence.

“Hey little dog, would you like to come home with us?”

A home Foxy thought. Oh yes! The joy that foxy felt so overwhelmed her at that moment that she licked the cage. She jumped with excitement and spun around twice as they opened the cell door.

On the drive to her new home foxy felt as free as a bird. The nice couple even let her stick her head out the window. Feeling the wind in her fur was exhilarating. She even let her tongue flap a little in the wind. Well, she couldn’t help it, this made her so happy.

When they pulled into the driveway the lady opened the car door and welcomed Foxy home. Foxy wagged her tail and hopped out of the car. Foxy saw a big oak tree in the middle of a yard with lush green grass and a picket fence around the lawn.

Inside she was even more amazed at how warm and inviting her new home was. She had two brand new shiny dog bowls that were always filled with food and water. She also had lots of toys. Some that squeaked others with bright colors that she could cuddle, and play with.

Foxy found her home, but she realized that even though she had got all she wished for she also got something very unexpected. Foxy found a family.

I hope that through this story others will learn the joy of adoption. Dogs that get a second lease at life are the most grateful, they are the most loyal, and loving. I encourage you to look up your local pet shelter and help an animal in need today.

Don’t breed help an animal in need.
